Introductions
Welcome to this newsletter! For those of you who don’t know me, or know me but don’t know what is going on in my life, here’s a little recap.
I have decided to go back to university for a few months, this time in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to deepen my economics knowledge (and brush up on my Spanish). This had long been a dream of mine for multiple reasons. First, my previous studies tended to focus on developed countries, so I want to improve my understanding of sovereign debt, capital flows, and currency dynamics in emerging markets - and which better place to do it in than Argentina, given its track record of macroeconomic imbalances! Second, I want to meet the people who have had to endure the ebbs and flows of the Argentinian economic cycles, and see how these have impacted their daily lives. Third, it might sound cliché but I’ve always felt drawn to Latin America - its lifestyle, its colours, its smells, and especially its music.
I want to make the most of this short period, which is why I’m hoping this newletter will serve as an accountability measure and keep me on track. Plus, I thought it might be interesting for whoever wants to come along for the journey: economics aficionados might learn something new; everyone else more likely will (promise I’ll be light on the jargon); and, bonus point, my parents can keep an eye on me.
If you feel like these economic diaries might interest you, just sign up and you will receive an email directly in your inbox. Hope to see you again soon!
